Wow! It’s already time to prepare for your baby’s 1st birthday. Time sure flies, doesn’t it? A first birthday photoshoot is a wonderful way to celebrate this milestone. I still cherish my own children’s first-year photos and hold them close to my heart. For your little one, I offer photoshoot sessions both in-studio and outdoors.
1.Timing is Everything
Plan the photoshoot for a time when your baby is well-rested and fed (but not too full). A happy, energetic baby will enjoy the experience more, leading to better photos.
2.Keep the Theme in Mind
Coordinate the cake, decorations, and outfit with your chosen theme. Whether you’re going for whimsical, minimalistic, or vibrant, consistency will make for stunning photos.
- Browse platforms like Pinterest for inspiration. There are countless ways to create a unique session.
- Share your ideas with me in advance so I can prepare accordingly.
- If you’re not set on a theme, choose three main colors to guide the session design.
3.Simple Outfits Work Best
Dress your baby in something cute but uncomplicated. Consider options like a diaper cover, tutu, or suspenders. Keep in mind that the outfit will get messy!
- Bring extra clothing:
- One cute outfit for pre-cake photos.
- A clean outfit to change into after the session.
- Don’t forget a bag to store the messy clothes.
4.Choose the Perfect Cake
Opt for a small, soft cake that’s easy for little hands to smash and explore. Avoid dense cakes or those with hard decorations. Also, limit artificial coloring to prevent staining your baby’s skin.
- Note: I don’t provide the cake. Many local bakers make great cakes, but even stores like King Soopers and Walmart offer simple, affordable options. You can always add a cute “#1” topper for a personal touch.
- Double-check that the cake ingredients are safe for your baby and avoid any choking hazards.
5. Bring Extra Supplies
- Baby wipes and towels for cleanup.
- A backup outfit for after the session.
- Your baby’s favorite blanket or toy for comfort.
- Music with their favorite songs to keep them entertained.
- A cake stand and any desired toppers.
- A friend or family member who can make your baby smile during the session.
6. Be Patient and Flexible
Not every baby will dive into the cake right away. Some may poke at the frosting, while others might dig in enthusiastically. Let them explore at their own pace.
7. Celebrate the Imperfections
The messiest moments are often the most memorable. Embrace the chaos, giggles, and unexpected reactions—they make for the best photos!
Extra Tip:
Consider bringing a small banner or milestone board that highlights your baby’s age or favorite things. These personal touches can make the photos even more special.
What to Expect from Me
My photo sessions are affordably priced because I don’t have a large inventory of props. I encourage parents to bring items or props to enhance the setting, which helps keep costs down. However, if you prefer, I can gather and set up everything for the session for an additional fee.
Here’s what I provide:
- Solid-color backdrops.
- A variety of cake stands to choose from.
- A balloon garland in your chosen theme colors.
- Professional photography and fun vibes to keep your baby engaged.
During the session, I’ll capture:
- Close-ups of little hands grabbing the cake.
- Frosting-covered faces.
- Tiny toes and candid moments.
These details add charm and variety to your photo collection, ensuring you’ll treasure these memories for years to come.
